We had a terrific night out at Solas yesterday, enjoying Piictu’s first public happy hour. It was a thrill to meet Piictu users in person and hear how they use the app in their own ways. It was also great take on their questions and suggestions.
A.Polo talked us about the need to send messages more directly between Piictu users. She wondered if comments would be the ideal way to do this, or if we could find another solution. Our designer Robin explained that we have always been averse to comments because we like pictures to do the talking. But he added that some sort of direct messaging might be a good approach. Perhaps a hint of things to come?
Users Alex and Peterxxl praised the app’s ability to inspire him to take a picture. Unlike other apps, they explained, Piictu’s streams suggest endless topics to take photos of.
Enjoying the end of an unrelated Bushmills promotion, there were probably a few too many rounds of whiskey. And when the Happy Hour formally ended, most of the staff stuck around to hit a Salsa meetup next door.
You should see the dance moves that some of our community staff are hiding. Maybe next time we’ll start with the dancing.
Piictu obliged, filling the stream with 523 photos from 378 different users.
"I didn’t think it would actually work but the morning that we got the 500 pic she woke me up and told me she loved me and would be happy to marry me" Alejandro said, "It gave us an experience that we will never forget, gives us something to talk about when we get old"
The young couple have been using the app for a few months now, and Alejandro says that his girlfriend Elizabeth is really, really into it.
"The reaction that we got from the community was very surprising I never thought that we would get so much support as we did. It was really an eye opener. It goes to show that strangers really do care about others that they haven’t met, they wrote captions of ‘good luck!’ and ‘hope it all goes well’ and those were the things that really put a smile on my face."
