On Wednesday, Piictu joined the Internet and the New York tech community in protesting the proposed SOPA and PIPA legislation. In just a few hours, nearly 100 users posted blank black images on the “Blackout against #SOPA" stream to show their opposition to the bill.
Other users shared screenshots of popular websites that were participating in the general “Internet Strike.”
Here in New York, members of Team Piictu joined the New York Tech Meetup's emergency protest in Midtown. We were joined by hundreds of fellow start-ups, tech companies, and software engineering firms that believe the current Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) damage the net far more than they fix it.
We were proud to see the Piictu community rally against these bills and hope that the buzz of January 18th helps Congress realize they need to work with, rather than against the tech industry.
